Background
Mission Trail Waste Systems (MTWS) engaged Envirolutions Consulting in April 2019 to provide commercial (COM) technical assistance for customers in their non-exclusive franchise (NEF) area that were being required by a recently passed local ordinance to secure both recycling and organics collection service (for larger generators of 4 cubic yards of weekly generation or greater). The technical assistance provided by Envirolutions included in-person site visits as well as phone and email communication. The purpose of the project was to assist customers with the transition to their new services as well as help them set up effective programs within their daily operations. Customers were also informed of increases in the costs of waste collection that would coincide with the new contract inception on July 1, 2019. Results Envirolutions conducted outreach to 678 separate accounts, including 805 phone calls, 2,419 emails and 698 site visits over the course of five months. Each site received a site visit, was called, or was emailed at a minimum of 4 efforts. In total, 108 trainings were hosted by Envirolutions staff for MTWS customers. Ultimately, 98% of all customers in the MTWS NEF service area were brought into compliance with the local ordinance requiring all COM sites have recycling service and all generators of 4 cubic yards of weekly generation or greater per week get organics service.
